The city of Chengdu
Chengdu is the capital of southwest China’s Sichuan Province and famous for its cute pandas. The city is located in the west of the Sichuan Basin and is the center of the Chengdu Plain. It covers a total area of 12.300 m2 and has about 11 million inhabitants.
Sichuan Province benefits from the Dujiangyan Irrigation System, which dates back to 256 BC. It is considered as the heavenly state and is affectionately called in Chinese “Tian Fu Zhi Guo”, which means “the rich place with the natural resources”. Chengdu is a very productive capital. The Min and Tuo Rivers, two branches of the Yangtze River, which are connected by 40 other rivers; provide an irrigated area of more than 700 km2; which is rich in mineral resources and extremely fertile.
Chengdu is easily accessible by train or plane, and it is the main access point to Tibet. The city bus network and subway lines are constantly evolving, so it is getting more and more convenient to move in the city. Compared to other Chinese cities, Chengdu is known to be a calmer and more relaxed place. Working and living in Chengdu is very pleasant. In addition to the fantastic sights, the city offers many activities for visitors and expats.

The economy in Chengdu
Chengdu has the most prosperous economy of any mainland Chinese city. In addition; Sichuan Province has the largest consumer market in western China – with 80 million people. GDP grows continuously.
To promote development in western China, the government launched a “Western Development Program” also known as the “Go-West-Policy”. The Chinese government is investing heavily in the development of the province to create more incentives for foreign investment.
At present, at least 299 Fortune Global 500 companies have invested in Sichuan, 278 have their headquarters in the provincial capital of Chengdu.
Important industries in Sichuan province are agriculture, machinery and aerospace industry. Moreover; the high-tech industry, bioengineering industry, nuclear industry, dental industry, biomedicine, traditional Chinese medicine, tourism and Chinese distilleries are also among the critical sectors in the region as well.
A think tank in the US has concluded that factors, such as employment-grade growth, foreign investment and different industries have made Chengdu a very lucrative place for business.
